Travelling actively to and from school

For many families, we know walking, scooting, or cycling to school isn’t always an easy option. But, with the current need to reduce congestion at the school gates and maintain social distancing, and the clear benefits of keeping traffic off the roads and encouraging lifelong heathy habits, now is the perfect time to explore active travel options.

Following the last lockdown, some schools reported that over half of their children walked, cycled, or scooted when schools re-opened to all pupils. We can do this again!

Here are some solutions and ideas that may help you to overcome some of the barriers we know children and parents experience.

At some schools, where there are particular concerns, Traffic and Highways Services is putting in bespoke arrangements to make the area around the school safer for more walkers and cyclists.
