The Health Improvement Commission loves being based at the KGV community centre. We also really appreciate being located in beautiful natural surroundings.
We have been keen to share our experiences, so we have organised events for children, especially from Early Years settings, to come along and enjoy engaging with nature by walking and playing in a fun and friendly environment.
In 2024 we have organised 15 wild mornings at KGV where we invite childminders and Early Years Settings to come along for a morning of nature activities. We have also had three schools sending Key Stage 1 pupils along.
We want children just to enjoy the environment at KGV, but we are also providing some learning materials for certain subjects. These include Tree/Plant Identification; Nature Stories; Minibeast Hunt; Exploring Senses; Colours in Nature. Check out Going wild at KGV for more information and resources.
We were due to be celebrating our final Go Wild at KGV day on Thursday 21st November coinciding with Global Outdoor learning day but sadly the weather has defeated us! The day is held to acknowledge and promote the benefits of outdoor learning. We have however re arranged the day to Thursday November 28th in a hope that it will be a little less wet and windy!
We have really enjoyed hosting our Go Wild events at KGV. Learning in natural environments is recognised as enhancing physical wellbeing, improving mental health and, very importantly, enabling a much deeper understanding of the world around us.
It has been a pleasure seeing 350+ children engaging with nature.
