Breeze, an initiative from British Cycling and brought over to Guernsey by the Health Improvement Commission aims to get more women cycling.

According to Cycling UK’s statistics, in the UK, men cycle more than women:

In 2022, males made almost three times as many cycling trips as females

Men aged 40 to 49 made the highest number of average cycling trips, almost double that of females in the same age group

Overall, men cycle more than women in terms of trips and distance, with men cycling more than three times further than women.

The Breeze website Let's Ride - Breeze says:

‘Breeze is a program by British Cycling that offers free, inclusive bike rides for women of all abilities across the UK. The initiative aims to encourage women to ride bikes for fun and improve their cycling confidence.

Rides: Breeze provides year-round, women-only led social rides at various speeds, from easy to challenging.

Inclusivity: The program is open to transgender females and non-binary participants who identify as female.

Volunteer Champions: Breeze relies on volunteer champions who organize these rides in local areas.

Community: The program has supported over 350,000 women since its launch in 2011, with a focus on community and social connections.

Our passionate Guernsey Breeze Champions receive regular training funded by the Health Improvement Commission and lead various rides throughout the year, completely free of charge.

After running a number of social ladies only rides over the Summer, we decided to create a series of rides led by our very own Andrea Nightingale who won cycling team gold at #Orkney 2025!

The series ran over six consecutive weeks on Wednesdays from 6-7pm. Each ride had a specific focus and for this particular series road bikes with either flat or drop handlebars were required, however there are other rides throughout the year where mountain bikes and e-bikes will be welcome too.
