Guernsey Cliffline encourages more people to be active and enjoy nature
An online map found on the Health Improvement Commission's website HERE provides clear information on route sections, distances, elevation and points of interest along the whole stretch of the cliffs, making it easier for people to choose walks that work for them.
The project starts with a series of numbered waymarker posts placed at key junctions along the main cliff path from the Bathing Pools to Jerbourg, helping people follow the main walking route with confidence. The posts are designed to be sympathetic with the environment, designed to last, and are secured in place on a small stake to minimise disruption to nature.
Guernsey’s cliffs offer a unique and spectacular place to be active. By making the main cliff route easier to navigate and providing practical information, we hope more islanders feel encouraged to explore the cliffs in a way that suits them and enjoy the benefits of being active outdoors. Some sections of the cliffs are steeper than others, or more or less accessible, but there are so many different stretches to enjoy and we hope the map will provide some of this guidance and encouragement.
The route is divided into six sections and highlights key points of interest, route distances and elevation changes, supporting people to take part in short strolls, section-by-section challenges or group activities built around the waymarker posts.
We would like to thank the partners and sponsors whose support has made the project possible, including the Saffery Rotary Walk, CMC Wellbeing, Digimap and Visit Guernsey. We would also welcome feedback regards the physical posts and the hope to extend along the remainder of the length of cliff path.
Being active doesn’t have to be complicated; and walking is the simplest way for many people to move more. We hope this new initiative encourages families and islanders who don't regularly access the cliff paths to explore them and enjoy getting out and active. We also hope that the Cliffline resources will be used by other groups and organisations to encourage people to be active while enjoying nature.
