- To help us achieve our aim of a family friendly games, the Substance Use Team concentrated on the adult population to encourage the choice of non-alcoholic/low alcoholic drinks (no-los) as alternatives whilst attending the Island Games. We hope many who enjoy no los at the Games continue to make this selection over the summer and beyond.

- We've taken the opportunity as part of our Count 14 alcohol awareness campaign, encouraging the adult population to stay within the low-risk weekly guidelines of 14 units with 2/3 days free of alcohol, to promote the use of no los as alternatives to reduce the risks of alcohol related harms.

- This will also be a great way for parents to role model when attending the Games with their families and open up conversations with their children about alcohol and the benefits of keeping within the low-risk guidelines, such as better health outcomes.

- We enlisted the help of 2 Degrees North, who produced posters, mirror stickers with sporty cartoon characters promoting no los.

- We have also transformed Clive, our ‘Don’t Drink and Drive’ character into an Island Games Supporter who again is giving the message to find alternative ways of getting home if we have been celebrating an island victory, using his #BLT (bus, lift, taxi) slogan.

- Aztech Soccer have a great initiative of offering every no lo they sell at a discounted rate of £3 per drink to encourage their customers to choose this option. We hope that other sporting venues will follow suit by the time the Island Games begin and are very happy to see Aztech take this step to improve health.

-  Liberation Brewing Co. are also offering no and low alcohol drinks for £3, and if you’re an athlete or volunteer your drink is totally free when you buy a main meal!
