The Sober Supper Club is a community initiative aimed at promoting mindful drinking and encouraging socializing without alcohol. It is part of the Health Improvement Commission's work to make alcohol-free socialising more visible and appealing.
The club hosts events like the Sober Supper Club at Nutmeg, where attendees can enjoy good food, good company, and a guided tasting session exploring alcohol-free alternatives. These events are designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and a reminder that good food and good company don’t need a drink to be enjoyable.
The Sober Supper Club is not only about enjoying a night out without the hangover but also about raising awareness of the UK’s low-risk guidelines of no more than 14 units of alcohol per week. The Count 14 campaign encourages reflection on drinking habits and provides practical tools to help people visualize and understand the importance of spreading their drinks over at least three days each week, including alcohol-free days.
The Sober Supper Club continues to grow and spark positive conversations about the place of alcohol in our community and lives. It remains one of the major causes of preventable harm to our health, so creating spaces for open and supportive discussions that explore our relationship with alcohol is really valuable.
