We’re excited to bring REACT (REtirement in ACTion) to Guernsey - a free, year-long programme designed to help older adults stay active, independent, and socially connected.

REACT is a group-based exercise programme for people aged 65 and over who are starting to notice changes in their mobility. It combines strength, balance and mobility exercises with friendly group sessions, education on healthy ageing, and support to build confidence and motivation to stay active. The programme is designed to help people make lasting changes to their activity levels and maintain health and independence in everyday life. To check if REACT is right for you or someone you support, please refer to the documents in the resources section below.

Developed by leading UK universities and community partners, REACT has been shown to help prevent mobility decline, improve physical function, and deliver these benefits in a cost-effective way.

Thanks to funding from the Guernsey Community Foundation, the Commission has been able to train local instructors to deliver REACT and is now running two programmes in Guernsey, led by these qualified professionals.

What to expect?

Each programme lasts for 12 months and consists of weekly exercise sessions. Sessions begin twice a week before changing to once a week after the first 3 months, with the view that attendees will start to become more active outside of sessions. Throughout the progamme, there is social time following sessions and the chance to discuss topics about healthy ageing.
