Le Rondin 'Munchy Mondays'
Mondays have become both nutritious and delightful at Le Rondin School thanks to a trial called ‘Munchy Mondays.’ Inspired by the success of their previous initiative, ‘Fruity Fridays,’ the school has partnered with the Health Improvement Commission to introduce a new program.
Fortnightly vegetable boxes have been delivered to learners allowing them to explore, taste, and even get hands-on by chopping and playing with the fresh produce during the summer term.
This initiative has been so beneficial to our pupils; it gives them repeat exposure to different vegetables and offers them the opportunity to interact with healthy foods through sensory activities and practicing practical chopping skills. Our pupils often face additional challenges to eating well, for example fussiness may be made more complex among neurodivergent children.
The Health Improvement Commission has helped us get this trial initiative off the ground. To keep it going long-term, and to also re-establish Fruity Fridays, we are now seeking a new funder. Please do get in contact with us if you think you or your organisation might be able to help.
The estimated funds required to run these two initiatives over the course of the school year are in the region of £600. If you or your organisation feel you can support with funding for all or part of this initiative, please contact Deputy Headteacher Christine DeKock via email at Christine.DeKock@education.gg
The Eat Well team aims to enable, empower and encourage settings like schools to bring in and maintain changes that support children’s health. Having repeat exposure to different vegetables and normalising eating healthily among peers really helps children and their parents overcome barriers to eating well, such as fussiness.
Through providing some initial funding, we’ve all been able to see the benefits this trial has had on pupils. We hope with a new, longer-term funding arrangement, Le Rondin can continue with and build on this great work. Thank you to Milton Produce for supporting this initiative.
