Alderney Inspire Fund

The Youth Commission and The Health Improvement Commission have teamed up to create a new grant giving scheme for the Alderney Community. The new Alderney Inspire Fund will provide funding to support young people to take part in any activity or initiative that seeks to prevent the onset of drug and/or alcohol use, to steer young people away from criminal activity involving drug and/or alcohol use or to support those young people who are already struggling with drug and/or alcohol issues.

Activities can be afterschool, during weekends or holiday periods. For example, it can be a one – off project for one young person or a group for an extended period. It could cover areas such as music, arts, creative, sports/physical activity, adventure or environmental. Off island initiatives will also be considered by the scheme.

Applications are invited all year round for the grant with the panel meeting bimonthly to respond to applications.

We are grateful to the Health Improvement Commission for supporting this new grant giving scheme which aims to empower the Alderney community to design their own projects and interventions to further support young people in their community around substance use Education, Prevention and Interventions.

Aaron Davies - Service Lead, The Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney

The Health Improvement Commission is delighted to be working in partnership with the Youth Commission. Having visited the Alderney Youth Club and spoken with the young people we found out what they were interested in, what inspired them and what their aspirations were. We wanted to give them the opportunity to own this scheme and try out new activities as a group or as individuals. With the Youth Worker living locally the scheme can be promoted and organised within the Community and hopefully some of the initiatives and activities may become sustainable.
