Expansion for Health Improvement Commission in search for new Directors

The Health Improvement Commission LBG are looking to expand their Board of Directors.

Adding to the five current Directors, who have been involved since the inception of the organisation in late 2018, the charity is seeking Directors who can join their mission to empower, enable and encourage healthy living in Guernsey and Alderney. The Commission welcomes applications from people who think their experience could contribute to the Board and are particularly interested to build Board experience in the role that inequalities play in people’s health. According to NHS England, differences in people’s health are strongly linked to health inequalities, which arise because of the conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work and age. These conditions influence our opportunities for good health, and how we think, feel and act, and this shapes our mental health, physical health and wellbeing.

“The Commission’s work focuses on the main behavioural causes of health inequalities, creating the conditions and everyday opportunities for good health, minimising harm from substance use, increasing physical activity levels and improving diet. Seeking Board level experience in the social factors that influence these areas is a natural next step in the Commission’s evolution”.

Chief Executive Officer, Dr Simon Sebire

The Director role is voluntary and the Board meets every 6-8 weeks. Board members play a vital role in steering the work of the commission and contribute their skills and knowledge.

“This is a real opportunity for someone to help the work of the Commission to develop. Being part of the Commission’s Board is a rewarding way to support the current health and future health of the Bailiwick. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to contribute to the Commission and highly recommend anyone applying if they’re passionate about our island community.”

Stuart Falla CBE, Director & Chairman

Applications close on 31st October and the Role Description can be found here, including contact details for informal enquiries.
